Save $$ money on chicken feed

We are somewhat new to raising chickens, however we now have 2 laying hens and 10more that will be laying by spring. There are different types of feed somewhere around $13-$20 for a 50 lb bag. One thing we did to stretch the cost of feed is put cracked corn in with the regular feed to stretch cost. More Importantly, do you know how much food scraps you throw away, provided that you actually cook and not do 😜 Microwave meals or fast food. This was the guts of a cantaloupe along with the rind cut up. They love it, why throw it away? They can eat most veggies, ends from green beans, carrots etc. apples grapes and the list is extensive. We also feed them egg shells for the extra calcium and such for strong eggshells when they lay. Ultimately you can stretch and save big by feeding your chickens scraps.
