To us of the biggest parts of homesteading and living on a tight budget is using things again in different ways that serve a purpose. There are so many resources to find free or dirt cheap items and just add a little fresh paint or fabric and you have a new product for the home. You can find items at yard sales, craigslist, on the side of road with free signs even. This particular item is a kitchen island we made out of a an old dresser.

The dresser was already here when we moved in. We didn't know it was already repourposed. We think it was three different under the bed storage with drawers. When we took it out of the closet it was three pieces stacked...and not quite even in length. After cutting off one one drawer so it would fit in the kitchen, some fresh paint, new handles...(and maybe some tears). We had a much needed kitchen island for maybe $20.
